We are a boutique accounting firm that offers audit and assurance services for a variety of organizations and industries as well as accounting, management advisory and income tax services. Our clients range from not-for-profit organizations, corporations, and sole proprietors in a number of industries including the condominium, health, construction, manufacturing, and professional services sectors. With over 30 years of experience in public practice, our firm continues to grow as a result of the knowledge and expertise of our partners and staff.

OUR SERVICES

AUDIT & ASSURANCE

Small to medium sized businesses, and not-for-profit organizations, may recognize a need for an audit or review engagement to either obtain an operating loan, qualify for bonding, report to shareholders or report to other regulatory bodies. Whatever the requirement, we have the experience and knowledge to help meet these needs. All engagements are directly undertaken by a member of our firm that has qualified as a Chartered Professional Accountant.

For Condominium Corporations, an annual audit is required by the Condominium Act of Ontario. Our firm specializes in condominium audits and has been doing so for over 30 years. We are a member of The Canadian Condominium Institute, Toronto and Area Chapter, which allows us to stay current with changes in the industry and with the Condominium Act of Ontario.

 

The services we provide include the following:

  • Turnover audits for newly registered condominium corporations; 

  • Fiscal year-end audits of the financial statements prepared by the property management company;

  • Review of the annual budget for the current and subsequent year;

  • Review of the banking procedures and banking documentation;

  • Review of all Board of Director meetings for the fiscal year in question and up to the date of the annual audit;

  • Preparation of financial statements for the fiscal year in question, together with our Independent Auditor’s Report thereon;

  • Preparation of the annual T2 corporate income tax return;

  • Preparation of the annual T1044 corporate Non-Profit Organization Information Return;

  • Attendance at the annual general meeting;

  • Review of other matters that may arise during the course of the year.

ADVISORY

We provide financial advice to help evaluate opportunities so that you can make the best choices in this ever changing landscape. We want to make sure that you and your business are optimizing all the financial resources available. If you don’t have an in-house financial professional or are not getting the information you need to run your business to its maximum potential, we can develop financial forecasts and financial reporting to help you. We can also provide risk management services to help design and implement internal controls and procedures to minimize the risk of theft and fraud.

TAX RETURNS

FOR CORPORATIONS, INDIVIDUALS, AND TRUSTS

We work directly with our clients to file the necessary tax and information returns required to address their tax needs. These requirements often vary based on the operations and activities of their business, organization, or individual circumstances. Based on client circumstances, our staff strives to identify the available tax deductions and credits to minimize any taxes payable.

 

Whether filing as a corporate, not-for-profit, trust or individual client, the preparation of year-end financial statements is often required. Our services assist our client with the preparation of an easy-to-understand annual financial statement that are customized for their operations.

BOOKKEEPING & REPORTING

Our practice will help tailor bookkeeping solutions to meet your needs, whether it is on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis. We provide quick turnaround of accurate financial information to get you clear financial reports on a timely basis. This way you can focus on running your business and get your free time back.

OUR TEAM

JOE POLAKOW, CPA, CA, LPA

Joe is a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Licensed Public Accountant who has extensive experience in providing audit and accounting services to Ontario condominium corporations and co-operative corporations for over twenty-five years. He also provides accounting and income tax related services to individuals, small and medium sized businesses and professional practices. With his extensive experience in this area, he is able to identify accounting and tax planning opportunities and recommend solutions for the benefit of his clients.

ILDIKO B. JURINA CLEARY, CPA, CA, LPA

Ildiko is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and Wilfrid Laurier University and obtained her Charted Accountant designation in 2003. With over 25 years of experience, Ildiko has worked both in industry and public accounting on a managerial and executive level. A recipient of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport volunteer service award, she has spent many years participating in the activities of several not-for-profit organizations and has held the position of treasurer for a rowing club and arts foundation. As a Licensed Public Accountant with the firm, Ildiko works directly with her clients offering assurance level engagements and tax services in a number of industry sectors.

CHERYL MONT, CPA, CGA

Cheryl is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified General Accountant. With more than 30 years of experience as an accountant and financial advisor, Cheryl has the expertise to deal with complex financial matters. Clients appreciate knowing that they can rely on the work she does and that she is there for them through the entire process.

DONNA LIU, CPA, CA, LPA

Donna is an assurance partner at the firm with over 20 years of experience in financial services. She received a Masters degree from the Rotman School of Management in 2001 and her Chartered Accountant designation in 2003. Her career began at Ernst & Young LLP where she managed audits for large publicly traded corporations in the banking and insurance industries. She then held senior management positions in large publicly traded corporations and not-for-profit organizations in Canada and the United States before returning to public practice. She gained extensive experience and knowledge in auditing Condominium Corporations as a senior associate in a condo audit firm before starting her own professional practice which she merged with Tapp & Company LLP in early 2022.
